Carers Rights Day 2024

Carers Rights Day 2024

Carers Rights Day is about raising awareness of carers’ rights and entitlements, to help carers get the support they need.

Carers need to know their rights wherever they are in their caring journey. On Carers Rights Day, NEWCIS aim to empower carers with information and support, helping them to feel confident asking for what they need and to challenge things when their rights are not being met.

Pop along to one of our drop-in sessions throughout the week to speak to one of our Wellbeing Officers and find out more about the support and information that is available to you as an unpaid carer.

For more information about your rights as an unpaid carer and useful links and contacts go to https://www.newcis.org.uk/carers-rights/

Claire Sullivan, NEWCIS CEO says “Carers Rights Day is an important date in the diary to highlight to carers that they have rights to an assessment and use the knowledge and information we can provide to support carers in their caring roles.

If you are new to a caring role or had many years of caring we are here to help, your right to a carers assessment is a statutory one and we can provide this for you or if you prefer, refer you to social services.

If you need support with  juggling work and care, struggle to gain the professional support you need with health and social care services,  NEWCIS can help, our website has lots of information that will help you; go to www.newcis.org.uk/services“

Unpaid carers have rights!  Many unpaid carers do not see themselves as a carer or realise that they are entitled to help.  Many are caring for the first time while others have been caring for a while, every caring relationship is unique, but all are facing greater challenges than ever before.  Carers Rights Day is an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of unpaid carers and sources of help and support.”  Commissioning Officer for Carers – Denbighshire County Council

Councillor Christine Jones Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Social Services said “Carers and young carers make a significant contribution to society, and it is important for them to know that there is help out there to support them in their own right. I’m really proud of the wide range of carers services that we deliver here in Flintshire, and I encourage carers who need support to come forward.”

“We recognise the meaningful contribution that carers, including young carers make in providing care and support to their loved ones and understand that they need to feel supported themselves in order to do so. The well-being of carers is of great importance, and we want to ensure that carers are aware that they can access advice and support in their own right at any time and not just when they are in a crisis”.  Craig Macleod, Chief Officer, Social Services.

Alwyn Jones, Chief Officer Social Care, Wrexham added: “Whether someone has recently become a carer, realised they have been caring for a while without support, or has been caring for someone for many years, it’s important they understand their rights and are able to access the support that is available to them whenever they need it. We are proud of our partnership with NEWCIS in supporting unpaid carers in Wrexham and would encourage all unpaid carers to pop along to our information event at Wrexham Library on Saturday, November 23rd at 11am.”

Cllr John Pritchard, Lead Member for Adult Social Care said, “Unpaid carers are the backbone of our community providing invaluable support to loved ones and ensuring their wellbeing. By supporting unpaid carers we are building a stronger, more compassionate community where everyone can thrive.”
