What is Bridging The Gap Gwent (BTGG)?
Bridging The Gap Gwent (BTGG) is NEWCIS’ respite scheme that provides you with a short period of rest from your caring role.
Respite care means taking a break from caring, while the person you care for is looked after by someone else. It lets you take time out to look after yourself and helps stop you becoming exhausted and run down.
A short break from your caring role could include attending a personal appointment, an event or socialising with friends.
If you care for someone who resides in Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Gwent, Monmouthshire, Newport or Torfaen, you could be eligible to access the award-winning scheme.
The scheme is accessible to unpaid adult carers and young carers (under 16).
The process
- Have a discussion with your social worker / professional about the need for respite / a short break through a What Matters Conversation / Carers Needs Assessment.
- If you meet the eligibility criteria, you will be able to choose a care provider of your choice (it is your responsibility to ensure they have capacity to meet your requirements).
- The social worker / professional will make a referral to NEWCIS and inform us of your chosen care provider. At this stage, your personal details will be inputted and stored on our secure database in line with GDPR for the purpose of the scheme only.
- A code will be issued to the chosen care provider and the unpaid carer. You will receive a letter with all of the relevant information and next steps.
