Carer Bulletin May-June 2026
Welcome
Welcome to the May–June edition of our Carer Bulletin 🌻
As we move into the brighter, warmer months, we hope this time of year brings a chance to enjoy a little more time outdoors, connect with others, and take moments for yourself where you can. We know caring can be demanding, so this bulletin is here to support you with practical updates, opportunities, and ideas to help along the way.
In this issue, you’ll find the latest news, upcoming events, training sessions, and support available for carers across the region. Whether you’re looking to learn something new, meet others in a similar situation, or simply see what’s on offer, we hope there’s something here for you.
Our full NEWCIS News Newsletter will be released at the end of May, just in time for Carers Week (8th–14th June), bringing together a wider range of updates, stories, events and highlights from across our services.

BOOKING INFORMATION:
Our groups and events are for carers only unless otherwise stated, and run on an interest list. Once you’ve signed up, we’ll contact you up to a week before the event to let you know whether your place has been confirmed. NEWCIS appreciate a donation of £5 or what you can offer to enhance future events and projects.
We love running events and groups for carers — and thanks to funding from external organisations, many of them are free to attend. If you are unable to attend please let us know as other carers may be waiting to attend that event. So if you’ve booked a place, please do come along. If your plans change, please let us know in advance so we can offer your place to someone else.

You can do something extraordinary, by doing the ordinary – shopping online. No extra time, no extra effort, no extra cost. When you shop online with participating retailers, they’ll donate part of what you spend to your chosen cause. Whether you shop on your phone, laptop or tablet, you can earn free cashback donations for your cause.
Carers Week 2026

For Carers Week 2026, we’re highlighting the power of building carer friendly communities. Carer friendly communities are places, spaces, services and community groups where unpaid carers are recognised, understood, and valued. Dementia Lunch Club Wrexham
News & Brews – Johnstown (Non NEWCIS Group)
At Johnstown Bowls Club, a welcoming group of local carers come together on the first two Thursdays of each month for a relaxed and supportive meet-up. Running from 12pm to 2pm, the sessions offer a chance to enjoy a cuppa and a bowl of soup while connecting with others who share similar experiences.
The group also invites guest speakers to join them, providing insight into different roles and organisations that support carers and the wider community. This relatively new group was founded in December by a dedicated local carer, following the loss of her father in October. Inspired by his love of “a chatter and a brew,” she created this space to bring people together. In addition to her caring role, she also serves the community as a local PCSO. The group continues to grow as a warm, friendly environment where carers can find support, share stories, and take a well-earned break.

⭐ Thank You to…
NEWCIS Denbighshire Crafters held various fundraising Christmas Craft Tables in November and December. They raised £200 and presented NEWCIS a cheque at their recent monthly craft group. They want to say ‘A big thank you to all that supported us’.

Young Carers

We’ve had a really busy and exciting few months with our Young Carers, packed full of fun activities and opportunities to try something new! We will be adding further activities to the website on the 24th April, so please keep an eye out: https://www.newcis.org.uk/young-carers/
Recently, we’ve had some amazing sessions led by SJ Wellness where Young Carers explored positive affirmations, learnt calming breathing techniques, and experienced a relaxing sound bath which was a first for many! We’ve took a trip to Spavens sweet shop, had creative sessions with tie dye, and even learned some valuable skills and confidence through training sessions delivered by Mini First Aid. For those who enjoy being active, we’ve had some fantastic trips out, including a trip to the inflatable park and to The Boardroom for some indoor rock climbing and bouldering sessions.
Our secondary Young Carers have also recently returned from two-night residential in Conwy, where they tried paddleboarding, explored the local area, and even experienced indoor caving… An unforgettable adventure for many! A huge thank you to The Outdoor Partnership for funding these activities as part of our residential, as well as the climbing sessions.
Young Carers have also been getting creative and working together on ideas for future fundraising, producing a fantastic range of bilingual cards for all occasions. These are still available to purchase in the NEWCIS shop, with all proceeds going directly towards supporting Young Carers across Flintshire.
Finally, we’d like to say a big thank you to the staff at Deeside McDonald’s, who kindly came together over Easter to ensure that our Young Carers received an Easter egg. Your generosity really made a difference and was greatly appreciated by all.
