Volunteers at NEWCIS in Mold have spent months of hard work, creativity and teamwork to transform the community garden into a bright, welcoming space where unpaid carers can relax, socialise and take part in activities.

Building on a generous donation of planters and decking from Toyota Manufacturing UK Charitable Trust, the volunteers  worked together breathing new life into the garden.

Timber was prepared by our Restoration Project volunteers to create garden panels that could be painted. An initial garden art workshop was held at the Miners Project in Wrexham, followed by further workshops in the garden Mold with support from creative staff.

The project is a regular weekly activity bringing carers and volunteers together, drawing designs and painting and varnishing.

The garden itself continued to grow, with donations of fruit plants and a small number of purchased plants, planting workshops encouraged carers to get involved.

The result is a garden full of colour, greenery and personality – a welcoming place where unpaid carers can socialise, enjoy some quiet time and attend the variety of groups and activities held by NEWCIS.

A special celebration event in August gave the carers and volunteers who contributed to the transformation an opportunity to share what they had achieved with their family and friends.
