Caring for someone with Dementia
Carers Trust Wales have launched Caring for someone with dementia: A guide for family and friends, a comprehensive resource that brings together the practical information and emotional guidance that carers need to support their own well-being.
With funding from The Shaw Foundation, they have developed a toolkit that will enable carers of people with dementia to access information about issues including:
- Getting a diagnosis
- Carers rights and needs asssessments
- Looking after your own emotional well-being
- Grants, finances and legal considerations
- Medicine management
- Hospital admissions
- Finding a suitable care home
- Planning for the future
“I cared for my mother who had mixed dementia for 12 years. Having this guide would have made a positive difference in my caring role, which is 24-hour a day responsibility. It has invaluable advice and information over a wide spectrum about the caring role, but also about looking after your own well-being.”
