About the Short Breaks Scheme
Funded by Welsh Government since 2022, the Short Breaks Scheme for unpaid carers aims to enable unpaid carers to take a flexible and creative short break from their caring responsibilities.
A range of break options to meet the diverse communities of Wales have been funded through this programme. These aim to improve carer resilience and wellbeing and to support the sustainability of the carer’s caring relationship.Â
Examples include (but are not limited to):
- Restaurant vouchers
- Hotel breaks
- Days out
- Group activities
- Micro grants
The scheme is shared between Carers Trust Wales and seven Regional Partnership Boards. NEWCIS are a network partner of Carers Trust.Â
These short breaks have the power to transform lives, offering vital respite to carers across Wales.

The funding is open to unpaid carers living in the following counties:
North Wales – Denbighshire, Flintshire, Wrexham
South Wales – Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Newport
