New Carers Centre Open in Wrexham

On Monday 6th March, NEWCIS (who provide all adult unpaid carer services on behalf of Wrexham Council) officially opened a new carers centre on Wrexham Technology Park (3A Edison Court), within walking distance of Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

Unpaid carers who are residents of Wrexham were invited to take a look around, meet the team and representatives from other organisations including AVOW, Carers Trust, Wrexham County Borough Council, British Red Cross, Alzheimer’s Society, BCUHB PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison Service), WCD Young Carers.

Claire Sullivan, NEWCIS Chief Executive Officer said, “NEWCIS is proud to open the new carers centre located in the centre of Wrexham, and close to the Maelor hospital. We hope that carers will use it as a place that they can drop into for support, attend training courses and social events. The team at Wrexham are experienced in supporting carers across Wrexham and may be able to offer you some advice and support. NEWCIS works in partnership with Wrexham County Borough Council to ensure that carers are given the right information at the right time and that you are listened to and supported.”

The Mayor of Wrexham, Cllr Brian Cameron officially opened the new offices and said, “It is an honour to open such a great resource for unpaid carers in Wrexham. The new office will be a great place for people to get information and advice and learn more about the services and support that are available to them as unpaid carers.”

Feedback from carers who attended the open day said that the new centre was a “warm and positive space with a great location near to the hospital”, whilst another said that they had a “lovely day and were pleased to come along and meet everyone and also to discuss potential new volunteering opportunities”. A resident new to the service said that he got all the information he needed and was amazed at the support on offer. A long-standing carer registered with NEWCIS told us that the support she has been offered has made a huge difference to her life.
