Online Learning Opportunities

There are wide range of training courses available online at the moment from building your IT and digital literacy skills to Welsh History, social care and business management. The providers listed below generally provide free courses and are aimed at all levels and abilities.

Open Learn Cymru

Part of the Open University In Wales, they offer a wide range of free learning opportunities and you only need to set up an account with them to start accessing their courses.

Their courses are split up into the following areas of study:

  • Education
  • Business management
  • Social care
  • Psychology
  • History and the Arts
  • Languages
  • Maths, Science and Technology
  • Skills - such as everyday maths and English

The courses run for between 1 to 24+ hours and are aimed at a range of abilities form beginner to advanced. Welsh language courses are also on offer.

They also offer a personal development course for carers called “What About Me?”.

Carers Trust

Carers Trust have courses including supporting someone with dementia to confidence building. 

The also have dedicated free courses for carers.

Groundwork

A range of online and distance learning courses (which have a charge) including:

  • Regulated courses - The team are able to deliver regulated courses through distance learning – this involves a combination of some Zoom/team sessions with learners on theory and for discussions and a video recorded assessment one to one. Courses include: L2 Food Safety, Health & Safety, Mental Health First Aid, Manual Handling and more.
  • E-Learning - The team are able to purchase licences for a wide range (over a 100) of health and safety courses and enable learners to access these. These are RoSPA approved short courses and a certificate of completion is given for each. These are high quality short courses.

Adult Community Learning

Some of the courses currently provided by Adult Community Learning (ACL) Partnership group include:

  • Level 1 Confidence Building and Personal Development
  • Level 2 Customer Services – includes, what is good customer service; creating a positive customer experience; communication in customer service setting
  • Accredited Level 2 Health & Safety
  • Accredited Level 2 Fire Safety
  • Accredited Level 2 Manual Handling
  • Early Years Pathway - Accredited Distance Learning – preparing learners for roles within childcare settings. Includes Level 2 Safeguarding; Level 2 Health & Safety at Work; Health, Safety and Risk Assessment in Early Years Settings.

Business Wales

Interests and Hobbies Online Learning

Basic IT Skills with BT – Mastering the Basics

Basic Sign Language Online Course (Free, but you need to register for a years subscription to BSL for “whatever you can afford” fee).
