Carers Week is an annual campaign that raises awareness of caring, highlights the challenges unpaid carers face and recognises the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. It also helps people who don't think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support.

NEWCIS always support and get involved with the campaign. We had lots going on throughout the duration of the week including events, information stands and drop ins. Keep on reading for a full low down on how the week panned out!

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who got involved with NEWCIS & Carers Week last week, came along to one of our events or supported us from the side lines. It is all very much appreciated and doesn't go unnoticed; the feedback we received from carers throughout the week was very positive (some comments can be seen below).

Monday 10th June

To kick off Carers Week we held our first information stand at our Wrexham charity shop (whilst the sun was still shining)!

The afternoon saw the first 'Parents In The Park' event at Alyn Waters Country Park in Wrexham. Holistic therapy session by 'Be Beautiful' along with crafting stone magnets and felt jewellery.

Tuesday 11th June

Tuesday was an eventful day! Despite the bad weather, we had a great turn out at the following events.

Mexican Holiday From Home

Carers enjoyed some traditional Mexican food, created their own holiday snaps in the photo booth and enjoyed a fun game of sombrero & beans!

Thank you to Carriers for Causes for funding this celebration and thank you to our volunteer photographer for the images.

"A very pleasant few hours in 'Mexico'! Felt like royalty, food was lovely, staff were excellent and the venue was very good."

Denbighshire Carers Information Publication Launch

Carers came together at the Oriel Hotel for the launch of the new Denbighshire Carers Information Publication. Copies are available from NEWCIS or download here. The carers enjoyed a catch up over a lovely lunch.

Afternoon Tea

Carers enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea at Offa's Paddock in Prestatyn.

Afon Spa Experience

The evening carer group headed to Afon Spa for a relaxing spa experience and refreshments!

"It was so lovely to relax, thank you so much for organising."

Wednesday 12th June

Carers came to join NEWCIS and Carol Dove from Flintshire County Council to discuss "What Matters To You" this Carers Week whilst enjoying Elevenses.

Friday 14th June

We had the remaining of our Holiday From Home events - this time we were going to 'The Mediterranean' and 'America'!

Thank you to Toyota Charitable Trust for funding the holiday at home and thank you to our volunteer photographer for the images.

NEWCIS Out and About

NEWCIS staff and volunteers were out and about around the community throughout the week holding information stands to raise awareness about the support available for carers.

Nurses and friends 3 peak challenge

Everyone at NEWCIS wants to say a huge congratulations to the 3 peaks gang! Not only have they completed the 3 peaks challenge but have raised over £3,000 to provide breaks to carers in Denbighshire. Thank you to The Craft Shack for the t-shirts and Wrexham Warehouse Project for the minibus use.

Thank you to not only the team but also to everyone who has shown their support - there is still time to donate!
